Distinction Point Between Viral Marketing And Spamming

Posted by admin | April 12, 2008 .

In the mid of November, 2007 I received an email from a friend carrying some beautiful jokes and at the bottom, there was a link “For More Beautiful Jokes Please Visit jokesite.com”.I clicked on that link and found a very interesting site. After that I forwarded it to some more friends.

Yesterday, I received the same email again from an Australian friend. Now imagine how much traffic a simple viral marketing campaign can drive? This email carrying a web link is in circulation from last 6 months.

Is It A Spam?
Spamming is an Un-ethical and immoral act and there is a big distinction between spamming and viral marketing. I received that email from a friend who was in my contact list and I forwarded it to other friends. This particular email traveled from friends to friends then from Countries to Countries and now from Continents to Continents. In short, sending emails to un-known people is a spam but sending some cool emails to your friends cannot be a spam.

To drive some cool traffic, you have to be smart enough and smart people do receive smart traffic. You should not miss any ethical opportunity of driving traffic, for instance if you want to send an email to your friend about some personal issues, you can include a signature files carrying your website links.

We all are fighting against spamming for last many years and we will continue our struggle but for that purpose we have to understand the real distinction point between spamming and viral marketing.
