When you allow Dofollow links you give an open opportunity to spammers to receive inbound links and PR from you website. Although there will be comments from high quality bloggers and webmasters as well but most people will try to exploit this by leaving fake comments just to receive inbound links.
Do You Need Commenters OR Loyal Readers?
Regular and loyal readers don’t even consider the follow and no follow factor while leaving a comment. But linking to spam websites and passing PR by allowing Dofollow links will ultimately hurt your credibility. Do you just need Commenters OR loyal blog readers? Choice is yours.

You might be asking this question to yourself, “Why should I even bother with commenting then?” Because you want to get noticed! Posting comments like “nice post!” will not get you noticed. You want to add value into the discussion, and that will get the author of the blog to notice you. Ask good questions or let the author know about something that was missing in the post. Those two are just basic ideas.

Allowing Do-follow links from blog is not bad but as you told that there will be a chance of spam, for that you can do moderation /review the comments then allow to getting live on the page. No-Follow Blogs are not getting good number of inbound links.

This article does give food for thought and I am now considering my options. I noticed that you do allow dofollow links. Are you not concerned about the spamming issue? I guess as someone mentioned below one can just moderate each comment that comment that they get right?
